Reaching Le Harve from Switzerland in 1856

I've found detailed information on my ancestors voyage from La Harve to New York City as well as the remainder of their migration via Albany and Buffalo NY, Detroit MI, Chicago and Galena IL and up the Mississippi river to Buffalo Co., WI.

But I've never found how they made their way from landlocked Switzerland to the port of La Harve, France.

The only mention I have seen in any family history was one that stated "They traveled overland through Switzerland, the soutwestern German principalities, and France, and sailed from Le Harve . . . ."

Railroad track construction in Switzerland, from what I have read, did not begin until in the late 1840's.

Has anyone found any information more detailed than what I have in quotes above?

Thank you
