Samuel was born 18 May, 1836 on a mountain farm in the municipal district of Marbach, Kanton Luzern. He was christened 21 May, 1836 in Schangnau, Kanton Bern. He married Maria Elisabetha Mathys in 1959. They had four children. The family immigrated to USA in the late 1880's. Samuel, Maria, Johan Ernst and Maria Anna immigrated in 1884, the two older sons Karl and Wilhelm, immigrated in 1883 and 1882 respectively.

Does anyone know the name of the mountain or name of the farm on which Samuel was born?

His parents were Ulrich Gerber and Elisabetha Kneuss. His siblings were Friedrich, b. 1827, Elisabetha, b. 1829, Johannes, b. 1831, and Maria, b. 1832.
