Still looking-Schmalz/Schmaltz/Brodbeck
I'm still searching for some connection to the Schmalz/Schmaltz/Schmalzl and Brodbeck family's in Switzerland and Pennsylvania, US.
I've found an 1880 census for Luzern County, Pennsylvania, that show's my gg-grandparents, Gottlieb Levi & Amelia Louise (nee Brodbeck) Schmalz & their many childern.
In the same census I found my gg-uncle, Jacob J. Brodbeck & his family, also in Luzern County, PA.And in the same census again, I found who I believe to be Jacob J. Brodbeck & Amelia Louise (nee Brodbeck) Schmalz's parents, John & Amelia Brodbeck.
John was born in the very early 1800's in Switzerland and Amelia Louise was born about 1820 in Switzerland.
There are still Brodbeck's living in the Luzern County, PA area in the year 2001.
There are also Schmalz/Schmaltz's living in Luzern County, PA area in the year 2001.
I really would love to find a connection with my Schmalz or Brodbeck family back in Switzerland.
Gottlieb Levi Schmalz was b. in 1834.
Amelia Louise Brodbeck Schmalz was b. in 1841.
It is said that Jacob J. Schmalz & Rudolph Schmalz are Gottlieb Levi's brothers. However, there were many men in Luzern County with the last name Schmaltz/Schmalz in the mid 1800's.Some from Germany, other's from Switzerland. It is said and has been passed down thru the generations, that all of the Schmaltz/Schmalz's in Hughestown, Luzern County, PA are ALL related to each other and they all were related to each other before they came to the US, whether they were born in Germany or Switzerland...somewhere they were all related.
These family members all lay buried in the St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery in Hughestown (Luzern County), Pennsylvania, along with many, many other family members from the Schmalz & Brodbeck family.
