Liechti/Leichty Biglen, Switz.1520-1735
Attempting to find information of the Liechti family who was around Biglen, Bern, Switzerland from at least 1520's to 1740's.No doubt there are still members of the family in the area. There were three brothers Jorg, Hans, and Jakob Liechti.Jorg (George) Liechti married Christine Ellenberger Feb 14, 1563 in Biglen, Bern, Switzerland.They had at least six children:Peter married Barbara Huniger 1562; Hans married Kungold Brand 1590; Joerg married Christine Tomi 1589; Andreas b. 1569; Anna b. 1571;Katharina b. 1575-all in Biglen.
Other common names of descendants were Tomi/Thomi, Walthart, Ramseyer, Isely/Iseli.
The first generation to leave Switzerland for France in our line was Vincenz/Bentz Liechti b. Mar 27 1707 Biglen, who married an Elsabeth Liechti.The family moved from Frutigen, Switzerland to France (Fesches-le-Chantel) prob. some time before 1735 when Jakob L. Lichty/Liechti was born.He married Barbara Roth in 1759.Eventually the descendants, Johannes Liechty born 1825m. Catherine Yoder,migrated to Montbeliard, France before coming to the U.S.
and dying in Allen Co., Grabill,IN.Other common spelling are Leichty, Liechty, Lichti, Lichty, Liechti, Lighty, etc.This family spoke primarily what they called "Pennsylvania Dutch" when they came to the U.S.Most were Amish or Mennonite and were know in Switzerland as "Taufers" or Anabaptist.
Common names marriages in France were Stoll, Graber, Kauffman,& Yoder.
