Switzer DNA Project

FTDNA announced yesterday a summer sale. They are offering one price $199 for both a male 37 YDNA marker test and mtDNA Plus test. The results will give DNA profile of the participants paternal and maternal line.

The 37 marker test is statistically and probablilty relevant to recent historical dates to about 4-5 generations. The mtDNA will provide ancient origin information unless the test reveals a unusual subgroup for their DNA.

Ancestry.com offers a male DNA test for $79 which is suitable but not 100% comparable to FTDNA tests. Please contact me to find out which is best for your line.

The research behind this project has resulted in an almost complete DNA picture of VIRGINIA lines of Swisher, Switzer, Sweitzer, Scwheitzer and Swigert family lines except for the very oldest line that of Henry Switzer and Chloe Chenowith. We still are looking for a family coordinator for this line to concentrate on a search for a participant or a willing participant.

We have also started mtDNA testing of feamle lines- wives of the earliet progenitors whose wive's maiden names are unknown, undocumented or supected of being incorrectly researched.

We are also currently focusing research to provide a complete picture of Maryland lines of Swishers and Switzers by the end of the year. We also have started working with related lines with early migration into NY, OH, KY and the Carolinas. Another major goal is to delineate the complicated web of PA Swisher and Switzer lines where most lines have origins.

We also would like to invite researchers of various clans or lines of Swishers or Switzers to join as Family Line coordinators as part of the project to coordinate research on the lines and search for suitable DNA testing participants.
