A biography/family history of J. Bertram Switzer, banker, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, page 942. His ancestors were pioneers in Wisconsin. The Switzer name was established in Pennsylvania in colonial times by Peter Switzer.
J. Bertram Switzer was born, 6 Dec 1879, son of Isaac W. and Pora (Dinsdale) Switzer. Children of Isaac and Pora Switzer: Mrs. J.H. Marks, Regent, ND; J. Bertram; Mrs. J.A. Ferguson, Loveland, CO; Harriet, Harlowton, MT; Mrs. G.A. Davis, Jackson, MN; Mrs. Fred Williams, Chicago, IL; Mrs. Earl Ellsworth, Windom, MT.
J. Bertram graduated from Viroqua (WI) High School and State Normal School at Stevens Point, WI. He was a high school teacher at Viola High School for two years, then went to Spokane, WA, working in a dry goods store and then for the Spokane and Eastern Trust Company. He located to North Dakota and became actively identified with banking. He founded a country bank at Sherwood, ND, and later at Lorraine, ND, being cashier of these banks. In 1917 he located to Wolf Point, MT, and organized the Security State Bank, with himself as managing head. He had other banking interests in Montana as vice president of Bowdoin State Bank, director of the Security State Bank at White Fish, and in Lothair State Bank.
