David Susan Ruttan/MacLeod/Switzer was my G Grandmother. I am wondering if you are a descendant of Sarah Switzer Hamilton? I will be happy to exchange information with you regarding the famiies. As to Jacob Switzer being a Methodist Circuit rider and being killed I find no evidence of that. Do you have some proof? The census records I looked at showed him as a farmer/labourer and so on. I will try to find the official death record some day. I had it once but have lost it but I can't recall any mention of being killed. Perhaps it could have been an accident while riding horseback? He died in 1886. There were four children to that marriage I understand, Sarah, Jane Ann, Hiram and Matthias. It appears that Matthias was born and died as an infant or young child. Do you have any added information or corrections? Lorenzo Switzer was the son of a Lorenzo Switzer and Susan Ruttan but they were never married. Lorenzo grew up in his grandparents home and treated as a son. In the 1881 census Susan was again living with her parents since her husband John MacLeod had been murdered, apparently for the money he had on him to take his family to his birthplace on the Isle of Skye. So she was a MacLeod, a widow then. Susan's sister Mary Ruttan had a son Allan Wagar. Again there was no marriage and Mary and Allen lived in the Ruttan household until he married and Mary lived with him and his wife Martha. Hope we can fill in some blanks for each other.
