The 1840 Census has 0000000001-00000001 for Joseph Sweany of Washington County, TN [WA-254].I think that would be 70-80 for Joseph and 50-60 for the female. It's not an exact match, but close. There is an Eli Sweany, 00001-20001, on the same page [WA-254], but I do not know how he is related.
I have often wondered if Joseph might be John Swiney's grandfather.John named a son Joseph. The son was born about 1855.The older Joseph may have died about that time.He was alive in 1850, but had probably died by 1860 since he was not on the 1860 Census.
Who were the parents of Marion Olliver, age 10, living in James' and Christena's household, or do you know?
The oldest record I have for a Swiney in Carter County, TN, is for a Jeremiah Swiney:06 Mar 1806, Roland Jenkins to Hugh Jenkins for $225, 109 A on Roan Crk, adj. Cunninghams, Jeremiah Swiney, Anthony Palmer & Wm. Cossen.Proved Aug Court 1809.I can't cite the reference for this, as I only have the notes.I am unable to tell from this if he is older or younger than Joseph.
