I do not know who the parents or siblings of John Swiney were, but it is quite possible that James is related in some way.

Do you know how your James might be related to the Joseph Swiney, age 92, living next door in Carter County, TN, in 1850? Others in the household were Susannah, 74; Margrett, 26; and John, 7. Joseph and Susannah were both born in NC per Census information.

I believe this Joseph was living in Washington County, TN, in 1840 and was listed as Joseph Sweany on the 1840 Census.
