Thank you so much for sharing this info on Michael Swaim. It helps me confirm Lewis Swaim as his father. My problem is that his possible dad Lewis deserted at Kelley's Ford on the Rappanhannock River THE SAME DAY (November 7, 1864) that Michael was fighting nearby on the same river. I wondered how could the dad desert while his son continued fighting? Now that you give me the info that Michael was captured that day helps me to accept that the dad could have deserted.

From a web site I had the action for Mike as follows:

"On November 7, the Union army forced passage of the Rappahannock River at two places. A dusk attack overran the Confederate bridgehead at Rappahannock Station, capturing more than 1,600 men of Jubal Early's Division."

Could you give me the reference to your information on Michael?
