Hi,
I have a copy of the 355 page document written by Ira Swiger in 1915 entitled A Biographical and Genealogical History of the Swiger Family in America. See below for a description.
I would like to offer to send copies to my Swiger relatives (!not to be used for profit!). I found that my local copy shop charges $0.10 per page (I thought it was $0.12 earlier) @ 176 pages, I estimate $5.00 for shipping and envelopes.
I am asking $25.00--with any leftover monies going to my Therapy Dog Group (My Swiger grandfather was an avid dog enthusiast and enjoyed the visits from my therapy dog during his last days.). Please see www.scdogs.org for more info. We are volunteers who visit nursing homes, children's homes, assisted living facilities, Alzheimer's patients, etc. at no cost.
The manuscript (It's pretty rare) contains the geneological history of William and Mary and Swigers who settled in the VA/WV area. I probably cannot answer your geneology questions, but if you can trace your history back to them, you should have this! It contains some of the following tidbits: Civil War info (I found SWIGER against SWIGER!), homestead locations, suicides, fighting over women, drinking and carousing at the Clarksburg fair, photographs, hand drawn family trees, occupations, educations, lonely single girls, wolves killed by Swigers, a Swiger who killed over 400 deer and bear, and there's alot more!! The old names are beautiful and
intriguing: Savilla, Missouri Swiger, Reubix,
Lucretia, etc, and you see them again and again, throughout the family. If the occassion should arise, I may chose one for my daughter (or son).I cannot put it down, and I haven't even begun working on my family tree with it. I've never seen a family history that wasn't just so and so begot so and so. This has so much extra in it.
PLEASE NOTE: THE MANUSCRIPT IS COPIED FROM MICROFICHE WITH A STRANGE TEXT FONT THAT MAY BE HARDER TO READ THAN NORMAL.THE GIRL AT THE COPY SHOP ASSURED ME IT WAS CLEAR ENOUGH TO READ.I think so too. Some folks may want a magnifying glass for additional help. The pictures haven't copied very well, but the text is readable, sometimes a bit rough, but really informative.
If you are interested, please email me with any questions or your name and address and I'll get a copy out to you as soon as my schedule permits.
Thanks,
