Obituary of Pauline Brinkley

Pauline Young Swicegood Brinkley, 83, of Carolina House and formerly of the Churchland community, died Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 7, 2000, at Lexington Health Care.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Churchland Baptist Church, where she was a member, by Dr. Steve Martin. Visitation will be in the church fellowship hall following the service.

Mrs. Brinkley was born July 14, 1917, in Davidson County to Charlie Young and Sarah Jane Ward Young. She was a homemaker and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Churchland Volunteer Fire Department. In 1965, she was named "Woman of The Year" by the auxiliary. She was twice married, first to William Glenn Swicegood and then to Harry L. Brinkley. Both preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Isabelle Miller Thompson, and two infant sons.

Surviving are a daughter, Betty Swicegood Barnes of the Arcadia community; a son, Jim C. Swicegood of Churchland; three stepdaughters, Betty Clontz of Lexington and Sue Emerson and Pat Vuncannon, both of Salisbury; a brother, Charley Frank Young of Churchland; a sister, Mary Louise Young Swicegood of Churchland; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Churchland Baptist Church, 7516 Highway 150 South, Lexington, N.C. 27295.

Davidson Funeral Home is serving the family.
