A biography/family history of Richard H. Sweetman is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, page 907.
Richard was born, 23 Oct 1862, son of Thomas D. and Margaret (Hollingsworth) Sweetman. As a boy, he moved with his family to Montgomery County, KS, where he grew up on a farm, was educated, and graduated from Coffeyville High School. At age 21, he went to Los Angeles, California, and was a streetcar conductor for about 1-1/2 years. He returned to Kansas and operated his grandfather Hollingsworth's farm until he came to Montana in 1896. Richard joined his brother, Luke, and was foreman of Luke's ranch for several years. He set up his own ranch adjoining Luke's ranch at Lakeside on the old Fort Buford Reservation, where he both farmed and raised cattle and horses.
On 20 Apr 1911, Glasgow, MT, Richard married Mrs. Aurora (DeFresne) Burneau, born 1888, Montreal, Quebec, daughter of Joseph DeFresne, a resident of Fairview, MT. Aurora was married to Theophile Burneau at Rolla, ND, and had one son, Theophile Burneau. Sweetman children: Pearl, Richard, Chester, Frances.
