We are cousins. Here is the family. I am great grandson of William Harrison Sweeton, a twin of Francis Marion Sweeton, who are oldest brothers of David.
Greenberry Sweeton (Marion County, TN to Dade County, Ga. to Grundy County, TN) married Kesiah (Hessie) Sullivan, daughter of John Sullivan, a pioneer Dade County Family (find in 1850 Dade Co., GA Census). Their children were:
William Harrison Sweeton (buried in Fairmont, TN--Grundy Co.)
Francis Marion Sweeton (buried in Coalmont, TN, Grundy Co.)
Darkus C. A. (Buried At Hobbs Hill Methodist Church in Tracy City, TN Grundy Co.)
Cynthia J. (nothing more about her yet)
Joseph T. (nothing more about him yet)
David (nothing more about him, yet)
Hessie E. (Nothing more about her yet)
Greenberry also had a twin brother, Joseph who lived in Marion County, TN (in a place known as Sweeton's Cove) just outside South Pittsburg, TN. Their parents were Robert and Margarett Sweeton. Margarett died of consumption (tuberculosis) and is found in the TN. death records.
You might want to check my aol homepage for more information about all the Sweetons, Sweetens, Sweetins, Sweetans, Sweitens, Sweedens, and however else you want to spell it. I have not yet run across a Sweetun, but I am sure there are some out there. The first North Carolina Records show the name as Sweitin. If that is the original spelling, we are of Dutch Descent. Some have found a Sweeton in Scotland. Some even say that the name was Sweeden or Sweden and that the family comes from that nation. And some say that Sweetin, et al, is a derivative of Sweeting, making us English. I used to think that the census takers spelled according to what they heard, but as I get deeper into this, I am more inclined to go with the original spellings as authentic. That being the case, I believe we might be of Dutch ancestry. I have not yet made any connection between our family and the Sweeton in Scotland. But that might be the link.
The webpage is temporary until I finish building a major Sweeton Family Website on which I hope to post everything I have and can collect from all the family. The web site for now is http://hometown.aol.com/zwoodchuckhttp://hometown.aol.com/zwoodchuckOnce you enter the website, click on Family, then click on the picture of William Harrison Sweeton. That takes you to the Sweeton page and has a lot of census data, tax records, etc. on the family. I hope this helps.
