John (Johannes) Henderson & Mathilda Peterson
I`ve been trying to research my Swedish Great Grandparents to try and find out more about how they came to the United States and from where in Sweden (the GGrandmother came from Dalsland). If anyone can help me discover more specifically where they were from in Sweden, how and where they first arrived in the US, I would be so grateful.
My Great Grandfather was John (or Johannes) Henderson. He lived most of his adult life in Minneapolis at 3325 Cedar Ave. The 1900 US Census puts him at 42 years old born February 1858 in Sweden. His immigration Year was1882. He is married to Mathilda (maiden name Peterson) Henderson born in Sweden and married in 1892. His death certificate. His Death Certificate has the following information:
John (Johannes) Henderson
Born: Feb. 17, 1857 in Sweden (another source says 1858)
Died: Jan. 1, 1927 8:35PM in Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., Minnesota

Age at death: 68 years, 10 months, 14 days
Death at home
Widowed at time of death

Father`s name: Johannes Henderson Sweden (This is probably incorrect)
Mother`s name: Annie Peterson Sweden
Lived at: 3325 Cedar Ave. 7th Ward
Length of residence in city where death occurred: 45 years
How long in the U.S. if of foreign birth? 45 years
Place of Burial: Hillside Cemetery Jan. 5, 1927
Undertaker: Albinson Mortuary Co., Minneapolis, MN
Informant: Herbert W. Henderson 3669 Minnehaha Ave. Minneapolis, MN
His father`s name was also Johannes Henderson his mother`s name was Annie Peterson.
My Great Grandmother, Mathilda Peterson, was born June 2, 1861(though her death certificate says 1860) in Dalsland, Sweden. The death certificate says her father was Pete Peterson but the mother was unknown. She died Sept. 19, 1922.
No one from this side of the family knows much about them. A cousin sent me a photo album from the 1880s in which most of the photos were from studios in Norway. At the time Norway was part of Sweden.
I`ve tried finding the naturalization papers but the ones that could be his do not give any information on port of entry etc.
