Many thanks for this interesting and welcome information, Martin! I am amazed that my great grandparents were able to afford to emigrate considering it would have taken more than two years salary to pay for their passage. My great grandmother worked as a maidservant and perhaps contributed to the savings as well. I regret the story of their decision to come to America was not one of those passed down in our family.
I have placed an order for Ljungmark's book "Swedish Exodus" and look forward to learning more about who came to the United States, why they came, and what they did after arriving. Thank you for making me aware of it.
