First, the things I know pretty much for sure. My Ristrim ancestors were farmers. According to Patrons Iowa State Atlas 1875 they both arrived in the state in 1851. His obituary says he arrived with his parents in Boston Harbor on Christmas Day 1853. I couldn't find any ships from Sweden arriving about that time.

I have my g grandfather's obituary and it gives the following information:
his American name was Charlie (Charles) Augustus Ristrim b. 12/22/1848 in Trottatorp Kristianstads Lan, Sweden (actually they spelled it Trottegongby, Christianstadelan) Trottatorp was the closest I could find. His wife who was probably writing it was 1st generation Swedish-American so she may not have known much about Swedish spelling.

His father, American name Charlie (Charles) J Ristrim, was born in about 1820 in Sweden. He was also a farmer. I don't know about any Illinois family but all of Charles J's children lived mostly in Iowa.

It looks like Carl Augustin was someone else, Family Search shows his parents as Father: Johan RYSTROM Mother: Pernilla CARLSDR with a different date of birth.

Thanks for all your work!
