Lovisa Hellgren, Aug 1851, Grevie, Skåne Län

I've just had a breakthru concerning the great grandmother I only knew from US census records as Louisa (married name Anderson) from 'Skoyner' Sweden. I finally found her marriage record in 1872 Cambridge, Mass, to Jens Andersen (subsequently known as John E Anderson) from Christiana, Norway. This was the first I saw her surname Hellgren, parents that are (hard to decipher!) perhaps Lars and Peternils(?), and married by Paster Gust Adolf Pehrsson. This quickly led to her emigration card EmiHamn Archive Call #5:297:1564, and her appearance on the passenger list of the steamship Malta which arrived in Boston 7 Jun 1871.

Now I wonder on the EmiHamn, it lists her traveling companion as 'M'. She was on the ship with Nils Petter Hellgren--who shares the same archive # and also has that 'M'. What I'm trying to discern is whether Nils was her brother or her husband. Cambridge calls her marriage to Jens/John E her first, but I don't know that is accurate. This is my only Swedish ancestor, and I'm very hopeful that someone will be able to help me understand how to discover more. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
