Ingela, Thank you so much for the help and wonderful explanations. I always learn so much from your remarks. Thank you! I have been trying to learn about torps, torpare, and hemmansägare recently with Jon's son, Anders Jonsson. It wasn't until this morning that I really noticed that Jon Persson was a torp as well. I had just thought of him as a soldier before. On GID 488.11.78400 page 262 Abborkärnstorp, Träskog, Gunnarskog... there is some mention about a mantal..år 1820 etc. I thought mantal had something to do with taxes. Then on GID 488.13.22300 page 401 same place...there is some word with torp at the front before Anders and his father Jon Persson moves below with a different word out front. Is it possible for a son to take over his father's dagsverken on a torp? I had not learned that a woman or child under 15 worked a day and it was considered a half day work. Was a woman called a torpare as well? The guy that was checking for me, was checking in the muster rolls of the Värmland Rifle Batallion. We believe Jon was a foot soldier in the batallion. I am not familiar with the Central Soldier Registry. I had hoped there would be some indication of what year Jon left the military on the HFL to help prove whether it was the record for "our" Jon. I had not noticed that Jon and his wife had been absent from Holy Communion. Did people ever not go to Holy Communion just cause they didn't feel like it or lost interest in the church? Jon Persson's son, Anders was abs. sometimes as well. Thank you, Heather Notify Administrator about this message?
