Valorious Sweazy and variations

In case those involved with this man should be interested, I can tell you that the name seems to have come through the Hughes family. Evidently the pronunciation got shortened somewhere along the way, so that one sees a lot of variations on the name in later generations: Vallous, Vallas, etc. I have an uncle in the Graham family from that general area whose name was Vilas. I've always suspected it was an imitation of this Hughes-Sweazy name. Then one finds in the same area women named Velois or Valois. I can't help but wonder also if that had the same origin. It sounds an awful lot like a shortened Valorious.
