Dear Fran,
I just returned from a trip to Cork, and saw your posting on the Swanton board. While I was in Cork, I went through all the parish
records for the Catholic parishes of Enniskeane and Desertserges. I thought your names sounded familiar, and sure enough, I had come
across them in these records.
Ann Swanton was baptised on September 23, 1838. Her parents were William Swanton and Julia Lyons, and the baptismal sponsors were
John Swanton and Ann Lyons.
I also found the baptismal records for:
George Swanton
Baptised February 28, 1849.
Parents: William Swanton and Julia Lyons.
Sponsors: Jeremiah Lyons and Mary Donovan
William Swanton
Baptised April 20, 1846
Parents: William Swanton and Julia Lyons
Sponsors: John Crowley and Mary Coffey
I also found a marriage record for a William Swanton and a Julia Lyne (?). The hand-writing was poor, so it could have been Lyons. I
have a copy of the record and will check it again. They were married on November 11, 1837, and the witnesses were John Harris and
William Shannahan.
I am fairly sure that these Swantons are connected to my Swantons, but I haven't figured out how yet. William Swanton may have been
the brother of my g-g-grandfather, Michael Swanton.
