Cappagh (my home) was the residence of County Monaghan's High Sheriff. The last High Sheriff was Mr Greene who lived there in the 1920s. My grandfather purchased Cappagh at that time, initially renting it to Mr Keenan, the State Solicitor, for many years. Mr Swan was high Sheriff so he resided there too. All of these Sheriffs brought much of their personal effects, some of which they left behind after their term ended. As children we often found pieces & books which had belonged to previous residents. The Swans later became owners of Monaghan's weekly newspaper - the Northern Standard.
