I am interested in a Katherine (sometimes spelled Catherine) Swan who married George Greig in Dundee, 1799. At the time, George Greig was a Private in the "Forfars (can't make out this word) Militia." They had at least one son, Alexander Greig, born 1804 at Fisherrow. Katherine Swan's father was a George Swan, listed on the marriage registration as a Flaxdresser. On the marriage record, it finishes with "both of this parish." I don't know if "both" means bride and father, or bride and groom. A search for a birth record of Katherine or Catherine Swan to a father named George Swan brings one reasonable hit - a Katherine Swan born in 1779 - but in Edinburgh. Other Catherine or Katherine Swans born to a George Swan seem much to old to be getting married in 1799. Between 1750 and 1785 (I know - a huge range of years for this purpose) there are no Catherine Swans born to a father named George for All Districts, recorded. Between 1750 and 1783, there are the following Katherine Swans born to a George Swan: 21/04/1765 SWAN KATHARIN GEORGE SWAN/MARAGARET LAIDLAW FR157 F Langholm or Staplegorton /DUMFRIES 839/ 0010 015 03/02/1759 SWAN KATHARINE GEORGE SWAN/EUPHAN AIRD FR8061 F Edinburgh EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/001 0300 0038 27 16/10/1779 SWAN KATHARINE GEORGE SWAN/ANN CAMPBELL FR2654 F St Cuthbert's EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN Hopefully the above will display correctly. Any thoughts on this or anyone recognize the family(s) I am looking for? Thanks! Ian Scott Notify Administrator about this message?
