Hello Carolyn,
The Family History Centre<LDS> should have the Birth/Marriages/Deaths on microfiche for the St. Catherine House INDEXES from 1837<U.K.>to almost the present. You would have no problem finding BDM's on the indexes. Once you find the Year+Vol+Page No's+ district where BMD was registered you can then write away for certificate's'.Your research is still in its infancy-but once you get back a couple of more generations you'll be well on your way.
