Hello Dusty; My name is Jim Robins, I am a graduate historian, specifically doing research on the Swafford surname, which is in my matraliniel line [my mother is a Swaffar - Swafford]. A couple of years ago cousin Ray Swafford passed away. After his untimely death, his widow allowed cousin Jay Swafford to sell Ray's books through his web site, which you can get to, through my web site at; www.tworobins.com/tenn.php Ray wrote a two volume set of books on the history of the Swafford families. He and I collaborated on his last book, so much of my research is in it. What I am getting at is this. My ggg-uncle, Isaac Swafford along with his 6 brothers all left the old south [the Swafford family was spread all over the states of NC, SC, GA, AL, MS TX]. Around 1810 they all upped and relocated to Bledsoe Cty., Tenn. after arriving there, and since they could never get along with each other or live in close proximity of each other. They spread out again. Paul went back to GA [I presume - lost track of him, I have search for over 50 years for any evidence of where he went. I believe he went back to GA.], John went to AL, Abraham stayed in Bledsoe Cty., TN., Isaac moved to Kentucky, Thomas stayed in Bledsoe Cty., Arron stayed in Bledsoe Cty., William stayed in Tn, and my ggg-grandfather, Jacob Swafford the oldest of the 7 brothers stayed in Bledsoe Cty., as well. Now lets look at uncle Isaac, he and his family relocated to Clay Cty., KY. Where they remained the rest of their lives. They had five children. The kids, grand-kids and g-grand-kids relocated, from KY to MO to KS to OK. This migration occured over about 100 years. One of the things that Ray and I were working on at the time of his passing, was the relationship of the 40 odd Swafford families in North America and their relationship to each other. It was my considered opinion that all of these families were related by blood, except form those Swafford's of black blood who were slaves or decsendents of slaves. Almost all of the slaves because they were treated well, took up the Swafford name. Notify Administrator about this message?
