Hi, Jimmy, I haven't worked on the Swafford line in a very long time, but I really would like to know who the 90 yr. old Sarah Swafford is in that 1860 McMinn Co., TN, census. Do you have any idea who she might be? Jimmy, I think it has been proven that our Sarah Larkin Swafford was NOT the daughter of Henry and Jane Newton Larkin. Dana Larkin Gross went to Rockbridge Co., VA, to research the family of Henry and Jane. I'll quote her here about what she found. "I found a lot of court records on Henry Larkin & his 12 children, Sarah being the 7th, I found her marriage certificate recorded in the Rockbridge Co. courthouse. She married Nathaniel Austin and her sister Jain was one of the witnesses. They later moved to Hawkins Co. Tennessee along with her sister Margaret Larkin Campbell, and three of her brothers David, Thomas & Henry." You and I both have our Sarah's birthdate as 1772 (according to the 1850 McMinn Co., TN, census when she lived with her son Alfred), but Henry and Jane's Sarah married Austin in 1780. They married young in those days, but not at age 8! The marriage date of 1780 is from the marriage certificate, so that's as good proof as we could hope to find, I think. Do you have anything to show that our Sarah was the daughter of Henry and Jane, other than the fact that they had a Sarah? If not, I think we have to accept Dana's conclusion about their Sarah. I wish I could find such clear proof about a lot of my lines! Ray Swofford's book says that Jacob and Sarah Larkin Swafford are buried in the Walker (also called Brushy) Cemetery in Bledsoe Co., TN. So now I think we have a mighty challenge--to find out who Sarah Larkin Swafford's parents were! I'll look forward to hearing from you. Barbara Wilson Dooley Notify Administrator about this message?
