Thank you for responding to my message. Do
you know where your Svoboda, Jares, and Moravec ancestors came from in Bohemia? Please let me tell you about what I know about mine. My ggg grandfather, Frantisek
Svoboda was born in 1814 in the village of Smrcek, which is just a little south and east of Chrast in eastern Bohemia. He took a job
in the 1830's about 30 miles east in the village of Hlohov as a gamekeeper. He married Barbara Kadlec in Hlohov in 1837.
They had 6 children including my gg grandmother, Antonie, born in 1840. Antonie
married Josef Havelka from nearby Hostkovice.
They had 9 children and all the children came
to Chicago in the 1870' and 1880's. Antonie
also came to Chicago in 1888 and died here in
1898. I also have Moravecs connected to the
Svoboda family, as well. They lived in the nearby villages of Trebetin and Bohdanec. I
do not know if any of my Moravec family came to the U.S. I visited Hlohov and Hostkovice
in May and I was told by a 92 year old lady
in Hlohov that no Svobodas remain today. She
said she remembered the last three Svobodas
leaving for the U.S. and settling in Nebraska. I should have checked surrounding villages for Svobodas, however, I did not do
so. Please let me know what you think.
