Harry, in the Somerset County (NJ) County Historical Quarterly, Vol. 8, page 154+, is a blurb on "Hendrick Fisher's children. Listed is child #5, Neltje, bapt. 24 Oct 1731 at Somerville; m. (license dated) 1 Jun 1751 to Hendrick SUYDAM of Somerset Co. She problably d. before 1778 as only her children (unnamed) and her husband are mentioned in her father's last will. This Suydam we have not yet identifed." That does not answer your question about is William their son, but perhaps it's something you don't have. Here are my notes in Legacy for William: MARRIAGE: In Marriage Licenses in NY Previous to 1784, by G.J. Tucker, 1860, is William Suydam m. Arres Bogart on 23 Dec 1775, Vol. 23, p. 236. Is this the one?? SOURCES: Sources for citing William as the father of Henry: (1) Robert Clifton (deceased in 1998) and I corresponded for some time as he had done work upon this family for decades, and he put William as Henry's father; (2) I found two Ancestral File entries (didn't note from whom) so two others also think this way; (3) Bob Protzman, another email-contact researcher, has a William, son of Hendrick (who m. Neeltie Fisher), but does not show William's children; (4) Carol Mahan, a professional researcher living in Cincinnati, did some work for me in 1998 and replied that she found "no evidence in my enclosed research to prove that Henry, b. 25 Feb 1778 in NJ, was the s/o Cornelius Ryker Sedam of Hamilton Co, OH (too many bits show Henry as s/o this Cornelius);" (5) in 1999 in the FHL, I found a book by Richard Lloyd (929.273 su97l), and then I called him, and wrote to him, and he shared a copy of his book/research with me; in the book was a copy of a letter dated 6 Jul 1949 from Elbert Sedam of Ft.Thomas, KY, to a Mr. Whittelsey (and now found in the Whittelsey Mss file in the Alexander Library, Rutgers University); in the letter he says, "I still have a great aunt living in San Diego..her maiden name was Alice Sedam...she will be 88 next Sept...she is the only surviving member of Michael Sedam's family....Aunt Alice informs me she tried hard to locate an old Bible that belonged to her grandfather, but without any success and I am greatly disappointed...there is no doubt that it contained family records....however, Aunt Alice does inform me that her grandfather's name was WILLIAM and that he was a brother to Cornelius Sedam of what is now known as Sedamsville, Ohio......she does not give any dates in connection with the settlement of William and Cornelius at the present site of Sedamsville, but she does state that there were three brothers and one stayed in the east while William and Cornelius came west and since she did not mention dates, it is probable that the approximate year was 1793...I deduce this from a reprint from the Ohio Archaeological & Historical Quarterly for Jan 1932....it was near the Big Miami River, present site of Sedamsville, that my great grandfather Michael was born....; in Richard Lloyd's book he shows a William Sedam, b. ? 1755, as a ?? s/o Hendrick Suydam and Neltje Fisher and then the line on back from there"; (6) in a 1995 letter from Robert Clifton to me, he says, "I am sending you a new printout of John Sedam's pedigree chart and family group records for his ancestors back to Ryck Suydam and Sarah Luyster....Ryck Sedam is purely a guess and my notes say so! Alice Sedam, d/o Michael Sedam and Sarah Ann Moore, lived the first part of her married life in Switzerland Co and from what I have acquired from Barbara's family (his wife), she kept in touch with other family members regularly...I have photos of her visiting her brother, Uriah Samuel Sedam, in Waverly, IN....Uriah was Barbara's grandfather and she visited him many times...Barbara says that Aunt Alice visited her family many times in Indianapolis and apparently she was knowledgeable about the family genealogy...this is our only source that William Sedam was the father of Henry Sedam and brother of Cornelius R. Sedam of Sedamsville, OH..." (My note: Alice would have been age 88 in 1949, so b. 1861, d/o Michael.) As of January 2001, I tend to accept the possible conclusions of both Richard Lloyd and Robert Clifton only because they invested the time to collect and analyze a huge amount of data. I have entered the line into Legacy based on their findings. Richard Lloyd has penned a comment that Charles Suydam believes that Henry and Elizabeth "Polly" belong to Hendrick, s/o Cornelius and Rachel Collins (shown on the chart to the right of William's listing), but he does not agree, and I tried repeatedly to contact this Charles Sedam of Louisiana, and he would not answer my letters and phone calls. So there are at least 3 options for Hendrick/Henry's parents. CHILDREN: Robert Clifton's notes show only 3 children for William, Jacob, Henry and Nicholas. Notify Administrator about this message?
