Elizabeth Cox wife of Rev David Sutton or David Riggs?

My ancestor Rev David SUTTON b 1703 in Piscataway, Middlesex, NJ married Elizabeth (named in his will). The Sutton genealogies I am finding have her as the daughter of Phillip COX. The Phillip COX m Dorcas HULL will names Elizabeth by first name only, and was written in 1728, probated 1736. To confuse matters worse it also names a RIGGS connection through a grandaughter and great grandson.

Baptist Church Middletown, New Jersey: "March ye 1st ca 1731-2: A list of names of the Church members of the County of East New Jersey. June 1733 David Sutton, Elizabeth Sutton." Evidently she died soon after as on 2 June 1735 the name Sarah Trembley, David's second wife, was added to the rolls."

Elizabeth and David SUTTON went on to have 5 children, Elizabeth, Mary, Isaac, David and John, between 1724-32 in Basking Ridge, Somerset, NJ. Elizabeth exited the picture between 1732-35 when David remarried. That would still just fit with the writing of Phillip COX's will if it wasn't updated.

So far so good.

The trouble: Genealogies have connected this Elizabeth COX b 1703-05 with Elizabeth b 1716, daughter of Phillip Cox and Dorcas Hull (who married David RIGGS, provided him 6 children and many descendents, and whose union and birthdate are listed in the COX Bible and the Warren and Allegheny County histories).

Has anyone gotten tot he bottom of this SUTTON-COX-RIGGS tangle? I am at a loss.
