Hi Pete,
My 10th great grandparents are Richard Eltonhead and Ann Sutton. The same as Barak Obama. I descend from their daughter Martha Eltonhead that married Edwin Conway, Sr. with Martha coming to Va in 1652 with Edwin as headright. I descend from their daughter Eltonhead Conway that married Henry Thacker, Sr. I have records in Virginia on my grandparents and have seen the Yardley name in Va but have not traced it in PA. I do have info on the Eardley with the Norreys group in England which some kept the surname Norreys, later becoming Norris , and in England the Eardley name. This is going way back in the earliest generations that has been researched. The Norreys surname split as some took the Eltonhead surname which is my line while some stayed with Norreys.
According to Plantagenet Ancestry by Douglas Richardson, Ann Sutton's parents are Edwin Sutton from Rushton Spencer and his wife Anne Stanley daughter of Peter Stanley and his wife Cicely Tarleton. Douglas Richardson does not know who Edward Sutton's parents are and he states this Edward is a different fellow than the Edward that married Theodosia Harington. I am really stuck on the Sutton line at this generation. I do have the Stanley line going through the Longspee line to Henry II of England. Any Yardley's I have seen was in VA but I do have an attachment for the early Yardleys combined with Norreys going back to the 1200-1300 time period in England.
