My nephew and I visited my 86-yr old Mom and made Springerles for Christmas this past Sunday. We're using a hand-written recipe that was handed down through the SUTTER-HENN side of our family. We went by the recipe from (my Grandmother) Anna Marie (nee HENN) Waitzman 1887-1946 of Dayton OH. Anna Marie's mother was Philomena SUTTER, born in Kogenheim - Alsace-Lorrain, she emigrated to the US and eventually married Joseph HENN. The other branches of my mother's family spoke German - but Springerles are primarily associated with the SUTTER - HENN branch in our stories - some of them are funny and cute: *People gathering from different ends of town to one house to make them. *A tiny little girl who would come by way of the Electric City Bus with a oversized bowl of unmixed ingredients of eggs, sugar, flour, anise, etc. resting precariously on her lap. *A burly strong-armed uncle Carl who had the job of whipping a incredibly huge mass of eggs to a froth. Finally - if you don't know what a Springerle is, I suggest that you go to www.springerle.com to find out what you're missing :) Notify Administrator about this message?
