Deceased Name: Donald A. Sutphin
GRANITE CITY - Donald A. Sutphin, 77, of Granite City died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at his home.

He was born May 30, 1929, in Detroit, the son of Galen and Susan Hamborsky Sutphin. He married Rita Joan Jackson in 1953 in Pocahontas, Ark.

Mr. Sutphin was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a helicopter mechanic. He had worked in the coal mines in Virden and was a junior high school industrial arts teacher and coach for 32 years, most of which were spent at Granite City School District 9.

Survivors: wife, Rita; two daughters, Teri (husband, Darrell) Sy of Fairview Heights and Denise (husband, Gary) Clouser of Glen Carbon; three sons, Gregory (wife, Barbara) Sutphin of Godfrey, Kevin (wife, Karen) Sutphin of Granite City and Brett (wife, Allison) Sutphin of De Soto; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Avis Thomas of Battle Creek, Mich., and Mercedes (husband, Robert) Sponsler of Springfield; and two brothers, Bernard (wife, Rose) Sutphin of Clinton Township, Mich., and Robert (wife, Phyllis) Sutphin of Ashland.

Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Irwin Chapel, Granite City, the Rev. Doug Nicely officiating. Graveside services: 12:30 p.m. Monday, Virden Cemetery.
