"Sutphin Cove," directions given in "Cemeteries,Floyd (Montgomery) County, VA. Burks Fork District," by Phyliss G. Phillips and Genevieve C. Starkey, this book lists this cemetery as Sutphin Hollow, which is not correct. We own Sutphin Hollow, which is in Carroll Co. and is my husband's home place.
"At Routes 600/603, on Trecie Bolt property." Trecie Bolt is a granddaughter of both Bolt and Mcpeaks buried in this cemetery. Also buried in this cemetery is Armsted Sutphin, Nov. 1816 to 1827. He was killed when a tree fell on him.
The actual story is, the family was "hauling" logs, and a big log fell off the wagon on him. Armsted was the son of John and Celia Hylton Sutphin. I am not sure just why he is buried here. It appears John had moved to Carroll county by this time. At the time of our visit with Trecie, at least 20 years ago, there were still rocks from the chimneys or foundations of the old log cabins.
