Sutherlands on oriental to NZ 1839

Can anyone please tell me if Alexander Robert Sutherland (from Badbea, Latheron, Caithness, Scotland) was realted to the John Sutherland who was also a passenger on the Oriental to NZ in 1839? I have been told they they were psooibly brothers but have found nothing to confirm this and am hoping someone can help link the two. Alexander was the son of William Sutherland & Chatherine Sutherland (aka Sinclair) and have found an inscription on the Badbea monument placed there by NZ Sutherland descendant David Sutherland that mentions a John as a family of William's. From the monument it appears William had children: William, Malcolm, Kenneth, David, Alex(ander) Robert, John, Christina, Margaret & Esther - can anyone confirm this please?

Regards Joanne.
