Robert Sutherland wrestler policeman canada scotla
I'm researching my great uncle Robert Sutherland, son of Robert Sutherland and Mary MacKenzie. He was born at x in Caithness on 9 December 1884.The family were farming folk.
Robert ("Bob") was an amateur wrestler and won a couple of Scottish championships in the 1906-1910 period.During this time, he may have been in the police force in Leith.
I have a newspaper report of him visiting Canada around 1911-1912 where it is reported that he was to fight the former Champion of Great Britain, Alexander Munro ("Alec" or "Alex").Both men grew up in the region of Loth in Sutherlandshire.
There is some belief that Robert may have spent some time in the police force in Canada (Vancouver BC has been mentioned) and his younger brother Dave joined the Toronto police in the 1920s.
There is also some evidence that he may have been in the British Army during WW1.
I would appreciate any leads. I have lots of information to share regarding this family if anyone is interested.
