Hi Mike,
Good to hear from you and to know that someone is working on the Suratt, and various spellings, family.
My interest in the family is through Anna (Matthews) Suratt.I have at least a part of her ancestry back to Switzerland in the mid 1600 and will he happy to share.
She was born at Owensville, Gibson county IN in 1846 according to the 1850 census, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Malone) Matthews. She was married first at Gibson county July 4, 1870 to James Strickland, but do not know his parents, whether they were divorced or he died, but suspect he died. The Myrtle (Strickland) Surratt, step daughter of Ralph, is the daughter of James Strickland.
A number of people are working on the Strickland families of Gibson county, but there were so many James' that they can't untangle them.
My interest is that I'm compiling the history of the descenants of John and Barbara (Bowman) Hunter who settled in Washington county TN in 1783.Anna Matthews was their gggrand daughter.
I'd be most happy to have anything you may have on the descendants of Ralph and Anna, right up to those children born recently. Also, I'd like anything you may have or info pointing me to where it is available on
Valeske Surrat.
If you know and descendants I'll be happy to include them on the information as it deveops for the next Hunter family reunion to be held in Johnson City, Tennessee in the summer of 2002.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Bill Hunter
