I have replied to Wayne by e-mail but in case others are interested in this family, the following may be helpful.

This says she is 10 in 1880, and was born in Indiana but of course, the ages in the census records aren't always accurate. I hope you get other replies to your queries, as I'm not sure which Hiram Surber this is.(There were several.)
I THINK this is the Hiram Surber who married Maria Cloud. But if that's the case, then Maria died before 1880.In the 1860 census, Hiram and Maria were living in Indiana, ages 27 and 24 and had two little girls, Sarah 2, and
Rebecca 3.
I found Joseph Ice & Melvina in the 1910 census for IN... with 2 daughters and 5 sons.Melvina (or whoever gave the information) is giving Indiana as her place of birth at that time.It also says both her parents were born
in Indiana which seems unlikely -- If she was born around 1835 - 1840, then her father was born no later than, say, 1820, and there were very few Surbers in Indiana that early. And if the Hiram Surber above was her father, then he was almost certainly born in Virginia.
