Jacob Frederick Shirbroun Allsace, Germany, U.S.

I am seeking information about my wife's great grandfather, Jacob Frederich Shirbroun (sp?) (8/22/1835-8/24/1924) who is believed to have been born in Allsace Lorraine, but who may have been born in Germany or France. His soldier father was killed when Jacob was small, and his mother emigrated to the United States perhaps to Ohio. Jacob left his new home very early in life and made his way to Iowa where he lived in Audubon and/or Carroll Counties. His wife was Catherine Lawson Shirbroun (4/11/1845-9/4/1879). Among their children was George Franklin "Frank" Shirbroun (6/19/1864-5/3/1930). Since Jacob left home so early in life, it is entirely possible that the spelling of his name is inaccurate.
