I am looking for the parents of my grandfather, Henry Clay Summerford (b.1860 somewhere near Atlanta). It's a real challenge because I don't have any information on them, including their names! Only know that Henry Clay was orphaned at a young age and left Georgia for Texas as a teenager. Anyway, one of the possibilities I initially looked at was a Henry Summerford who mustered into the 51st Georgia Infantry in 1862. I believe this may be the same Henry who married Eleanor Smith in Houston County. I've requested his service record from the National Archives. If he survived the war, it's unlikely he's the one I'm looking for . . .but I'll be happy to share info from the record with you. I'm also looking at the possibility my grandfather is descended from Abraham and Sarah Summerford because several of their sons were killed in the Civil War. Any information you have about this family would be appreciated. Thanks.
