Hi Beverly - thank you so much for the info on Royal and Fannie Summerfield Grogan. Now, I have a million and one questions.I always wondered what had happened to this family, for according to Kanawha Co. history of the salts, this was a family of "means" - and they just disappeared. If memory serves me correctly, Fannie had one brother to drown in the Kanawha River where the salts were locted. The Summerfields are a very interesting family - don't know much about the Grogan family though. Her father, Samuel Plunkette Summerfield was married I believe 4 times.Wives died and he had several children. One son, a Confederate soldier, stayed here in the Kanawha Valley and then "disappeared". Perhaps he also went to Texas, but I know I never found him on any other records around here.
How do you fit into this family - Grogans & Summerfields? The middle initial of "P" is used by several members of this family -my dad was Olen Pembern Summerfield. They usually have long lives, the Summerfields.Come here from England (at least this group did) settled in Botetourt Co. VA.
Do you know if any other Grogan or Summerfield family members made the trip to Texas with Royal and Fannie?I am going to attempt to find the book you mentioned.Should be quite interesting.Glad to share any of my data with you. I use the PAF program. Will be in touch. Thanks, Carol Fouty in Charleston, WV
