Hi, Catherine. I am descended from Joseph Roy and also from Joseph Summerfield. The information I have indicates that Joseph Summerfield and Thomas were brothers who came from England when they were transported for stealing in 1765. They disappear for a while and later show up in what is now West Virginia. Thomas married Elizabeth Roy, daughter of Joseph and Joley Roy. Her brother, Joseph Roy, married Sarah Summerfield, daughter of Joseph Summerfield. I am descended from Joseph Roy's son Soloman Roy who married Margaret Pennington. Soloman and Margaret's daughter Mary Catherine Roy married John Wesley Summerfield. John Wesley and Mary Catherine had a son Mordecai Preston Summerfield who was my ggrandfather. Their daughter, Phebe Catherine, married my grandfather, Caleb White. Caleb White is descended from another of Joseph Summerfield's daughters who married David White in 1800. As you can see, the Summerfields, Whites, and Roys intermarried quite a bit and it all gets rather confusing. You have to remember that there wasn't a lot of population in the area at that time and you marry who you know! Please let me know about your ancestor Jacob Roy as I didn't have his name before this.
