Hi John:
If this is the right family, I found them here in 1870:
1870; Census Place: Tama, Tama, Iowa; Roll: M593_420; Page: 338; Image: 676.
Charles Sullivan age 25~carpenter~born Ohio
Eliza E age 23~keeping house~born Ohio
John age 2~born Iowa
Elizabeth (Stevens?) age 50 born Ohio
Name: Charles E. Sullivan
Death Date: 03 Sep 1870
Page #: 188
Birth Date: 1844
Cemetery: Oak Hill
Town: Tama
Relative: 26
Level Info: Gravestone Records of Tama County, Ia.
An Eliza E Greenlee filed for a widow's pension for Charles E. Sullivan. If you haven't obtained his service records I would suggest that you do that. Charles was in the K 47 Iowa Inf and K 6 Iowa Cavl.
I don't know if this is Eliza and John, but it fits.

If this is the right family, then it looks like your family was in the US prior to 1867 and even 1844, if Charles was born in Ohio.
I can look for the family in Ohio prior to 1867 if you do not have that information.
Good Luck and have fun on your trip!
Laura
