Here are some notes on Royal Budd Sullivan, of Clay Co, FL:
1838: Bud and/or Bird Sulevant appears on a muster roll of Capt. James A. Sweat's Company, in the Ware County militia. He served on 06/09/1838 through 08/19/1838.
1840: Bud Sullivan (M20-30) appears as head of a family in District #442 in Appling Co, GA, page 024. Also enumerated are F20-30,M15-20,M<15.
1842-44: Based on the birth states and ages of his children in the 1850 Census, it appears that this is when the Silivants migrated to Florida.
1848: R. B. Silivant appears in tax digest of Alachua Co, FL. Assessed for poll tax only.
1850: Robert B. and Nancy Silivant appear in the Clay Hill District of the Duval Co, FL Census, page 116.
1850: Obadiah (M29) and Sarah (F18) Coleman appear as heads of a family in Columbia Co, FL census, page 108. They were next door neighbors to John and Nancy Sullivan, the parents of Royal Budd Sullivan.
09/22/1852: Budd Sullivan was an early settler of Clay Co, FL near present day Highland community. This area was part of Duval County at this time.
1854: R. B. Sullivan appears in tax digest of Alachua Co, FL. Assessed for 80 acres of land.
04/04/1859: R. B. Sullivant was elected a county commissioner of the newly created Clay Co, FL.
1860: R.B. and Nancy Sullivant appear in Middleburg Post Office in Clay Co, FL Census, page 150.
1860: O. (M38) and Sarah (F28) appear as heads of a family in Middleburg P. O. District in Clay Co, FL census, page 154. They lived in the same area as R.B. and Nancy Sullivant.
9/28/1861: Royal B. Sullivant enlisted at Fernandina into Company A in the 10th Florida Infantry Regiment of the CSA army. He was elected 2nd Lt. O. R. Coleman was a private in the same company.
5/12/1862: Royal B. Sullivant re-elected 2nd Lt.
12/20/1862: Royal B. Sullivant resigned his commission at Alum Bluff. He resigned because his son would soon be entering the service and his family needed a protector.
1862: R. B. Sullivant enlisted in Co. E of the 7th Florida Infantry Division of the CSA.
1870: R. B. and Nancy Sullivant appear in Clay Co, Fl Census, page 322.
10/20/1872: Marriage of Ryal B. Sullivan, Esq. and Mrs. Sarah Coleman is recorded in Clay Co, FL Marriage Book E, page 016 and 017.
1873: R. B. Sullivan was part of a 3 man committee named by the Clay County Commission to submit specifications for a jail.
1880: Royal and Sarah Sullivan appear in Green Cove Springs in the Clay Co, FL Census, page 329.
1880: Sellers (M58) and Dorcas (F61) Lee appear as heads of a family in District #442-Taylortown in Appling Co, GA census, page 14B. District #442 is where the Sullivan(t)s lived.
1888: Per page 262 of the History of Clay County, R. B. Sullivan ran a dairy.
1899: Supposedly he left his wife Sarah and went to Appling Co, GA to marry the widow Dorcas Dedge Lee, his childhood sweetheart. Is the marriage recorded in Appling Co, GA?
1900:
12/24/1901: Marriage of R. B. Sullivan and Mrs. Sarah Sullivan is recorded in Clay Co, FL Marriage Book H, page 062. WAIT A MINUTE!!! Did he die in Aug 1901? Then how could he be married in December?
1908: Mrs. Royal B. Sullivant, of Alachua Co, FL, received a Florida confederate pension (file A12236).
Filed application for service in Florida War in Sweat's GA Volunteers (SC-5796 GA) and for service in the Mexican War with FL Volunteers (Mexican War S-0#5624). Widow filed for pension 09/08/1902 (WC-6736 FL). From Indian Wars Pension Files (1892-1926), by Virgil White.
