James Suite/Suit who d. 1813 in St. Mary's Co. MD seems to either have been the son of Benjamin Suit (d. 1809-1810) or was perhaps raised by him. James Suit's wife Ann Banner had a brother Benjamin Banner who lived next door to Benjamin Suit in the 1800 federal census. We do not know the early wives of Benjamin Suit but it is clear he was born before 1738 due to his son, Alexander Suit taking the Oath of Allegiance in Harford Co. MD in 1778. Alexander m. Agnes Benfield in 1784 in Greene Co. TN which had been part of NC until right before they married. Agnes Benfield was most probably the d/o Samuel Benfield and Dorothy Spalding. Dorothy was from St. Mary's Co. MD and was Catholic. I believe (due to recent findings) that she was actually d/o Catherine Cooper and Thomas Spalding. My own Suite family of St. Mary's is also decended from the Spalding family via Elizabeth Spalding who was supposedly murdered by her husband James Williams. I am not sure he was guilty!According to Linda Reno he was hanged for the crime, but James' son, Wm. Henry Williams' 1st wife was also murdered not too long after James was hanged. Was this a coincidence--or--was an innocent man hanged and the murderer struck again (?)I am descended from William Henry Williams and his 2nd wife Mary "Polly" Copsey. Their daughter Rose m. Norris SUITE/SUIT who was s/o Samuel SUIT who was s/o James SUIT (who d. 1813 St. Mary's Co. MD) who was probably s/o Benjamin SUIT who was s/o Dent SUITE (Sr.) who was s/o Thomas SUITE.I still have a mystery though as James SUIT was supposedly baptized in Jun 1765 yet in the census records there was an older man living in his household. It was NOT Benjamin. Who was he? Also, could not be his father-in-law as he was living in SC and d. there 1799-1800.
