Happily Hunting! 1700's- today in USA

Just before Christmas '98, my husband purchased a new computer with lots of software (including family tree maker.) Bored one day, I started playing with FTM and found the Genforum... what a gold mine. Before, I wasn't really interested in genealogy, but now I'm addicted.

Within days I found at least 3 'cousins' of my husband's. My husband's family (including our 3 children) was a missing branch on the Buchanan tree. And 2 months later I am still finding family connections.

I have been amazed at how often my extended family, and my husbands extended family, have crossed paths in earlier centuries. Moving through VA, NC, KY, Kansas, IL, OK to CA. I am in contact with one 'new' French cousin (my husbands side), who also has Meadors connections (my side). One of our 'new' Buchanan cousins actually grew up in the same city as my husband, and attended some of the same schools (different years), and they never even knew each other existed!

It has been very exciting, and very rewarding. The genforum family has proven to be friendly and gracious. If someone I contacted hasn't turned out to be family, they have turned out to be friendly and helpful! So don't be afraid to e-mail or post a message... I have never had a 'negative' response! I have now hit that proverbial 'brick wall'. Thats Ok, I know if I keep checking back, I'll eventually run into a long lost cousin that is looking too! In the meantime, I'll start documenting so I can share with them... 'our' family!

HAPPY HUNTING to all of you!
