John and Barbara Stutsman, Rowan Co., NC
I know that this is long, but I have a lot of family connections to enumerate and hopefully to get some help proving or disproving them.
www.familysearch.org gives the information that Jacob and Barbara STUTSMAN had a son John (born @1761, Frederick Co., MD) who married Elizabeth MAY (born @1765, Rowan Co., NC) in @1786 in Rowan Co., NC.It also states that John died in 1804 in Clark Co., IN and Elizabeth married Benjamin SANDERS (born @1783) on March 3, 1809 in CLARK CO., IN.
A Benjamin SANDERS appears for the first time on the 1830 MONROE COUNTY, INDIANA census and is the household listed right before the household of a John, Senior and Elizabeth (?) MAY.On November 23, 1830, Thomas SANDERS/SAUNDERS, who I suspect to be a son of Benjamin, married Catharine MAY, who I would imagine to be the daughter of John and Elizabeth MAY.A Richard SANDERS, who I also suspect to be a son of Benjamin, married Eliza MAY on November 10, 1843 in LEE COUNTY, IOWA.Eliza MAY was the daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth (SEARS) MAY who moved to LEE COUNTY, IOWA from MONROE COUNTY, IN sometime around 1840.Isaac MAY was the grandson of Jacob MAY of ASHE COUNTY, NC.Thomas, Catharine, Richard, and Eliza SANDERS are all buried in Shibley's Point Cemetery in ADAIR COUNTY, MO.

Additional information from www.familysearch.org is the following:
John and Elizabeth STUTSMAN had the children:
1) Elizabeth born @1791, NC
2) Abraham born @1793, Rowan Co., NC.Abraham married Sarah Kern on February 4, 1825 in MONROE COUNTY, INDIANA and died September 26, 1845 in LEE COUNTY, IOWA.Abraham and Sarah had a daughter Mary who married a Jasper MOORE in IOWA.His mother was identified as Mary SEARS who was born in MONROE COUNTY, IN.
3) Isaac born @1785, Clark Co., IN.He died in 1856 in Washington Township, LEE COUNTY, IOWA.
4) Barbara (Barbary) born @1800, NC
Can someone help me with this STUTSMAN family? How accurate or inaccurate is the www.familysearch.org information?I already know that there were no STUTSMAN marriages in MONROE COUNTY, IN from 1818 to 1881, but the researcher who submitted the information about Abraham STUTSMAN's marriage had obviously decided that there was some MONROE COUNTY, IN connection. Was Elizabeth STUTSMAN really a MAY?Is the Benjamin and Elizabeth SANDERS in MONROE COUNTY, IN the same couple from CLARK CO., IN?Did Abraham and Isaac STUTSMAN live and die in LEE COUNTY, IOWA and were they the half-brothers of Richard SANDERS who married in LEE COUNTY, IOWA?Jasper MOORE could very well have been the son of Mary SEARS who married Samuel MOORE in MONROE COUNTY, IN.Mary was probably related to Elizabeth (SEARS) MAY whose daughter married Richard SANDERS.
I would assume that Jacob and Barbara STUTSMAN were the same people as Jacob and Barbara (FOUTS) STUTSMAN of Rowan County, NC.I am a descendant of Elizabeth (BURKET) MAY, daughter of Christian BURKET of ASHE COUNTY, NC.Christian was the brother of Henry BURKHARD whose son John BURKET married Susanna STUTSMAN in ELKHART COUNTY, IN.This information is from a book on the descendants of Jehu BURKET (BURKHARD).One of the publishers of this book is identified as the "BURKET-FOUTS Group".According to the book, Jehu BURKHARD had lived in LANCASTER COUNTY, PA; FREDERICK CO., MD; and ROWAN COUNTY, NC.He was a bishop or elder in the Church of the Brethren (Dunkards). There is reason to believe that the MAYs were also Brethren in ASHE COUNTY, NC.
To confuse the issue, I am also a descendant of Jonathon HOWELL.Jonathon was the uncle of the Jonathon HOWELL that married Susannah STUTSMAN, daughter of Alexander and Rhoda (Seybold) STUTSMAN and he was the father of Anna HOWELL who married Alexander D. STUTSMAN, son of Alexander and Rhoda (Seybold) STUTSMAN.My HOWELL/EAST/MAY ancestors are written up in the book "A Memorial History and Genealogical Record of the John Howell and Jacob Stutzman Families".I gather from reading the STUTSMAN queries that this STUTSMAN family that was related to the HOWELL family is considered to be a completely different family from the STUTSMAN family that I have mentioned above. Is this correct? The common factor here is MONROE COUNTY, INDIANA.
