Tim: My great-grandfather was John, Riley's son. Riley's death certificate states that Thomas Sturman (Sterman) father was born in Virginia. Mother Abasha B. Corbin also born in Virginia. John (also know as Cougar Jack) would tell stories of Riley's brother and sisters left home and changed the spelling of their last name. I have sent for Civil War records from the National Archives, should take 16 weeks. If interested let me know
