Sturms of Stark co.IL
This message is mainly for making corrections and additions to past postings.Hopefully you will change theincorrect information if you have posted my info. on other sites.
My grand father was Ernest Walter STURM b. 15 Jan. 1877 in Lafayette, Stark co. IL.
My lines going back are:
Ernest W. STURM
James K.P. STURM b. Nov.1845
Simon STURM June 1821
Matthias STURM b. ca 1789
Henry STURM b. ca 1757
In past postings I said that the mother of Ernest Walter STURM, and 2nd wife of James K.P. STURM, was Amelia E. KERN.With continued research I have found that Amelia Ellen's maiden name was not KERN. With new found documentation I now believe that the 2nd wife of James STURM was Amelia E. PAYNE - PANE- or PAINE.
Amelia Ellen PAYNE married Ira PORTER on 9 Feb.1867 in Stark county. On the 1850 & 1860 census, Ira PORTER lived with Matthias STURM.Could Ira PORTER be a grandson of Mathias ?....maybe son of Hannah STURM?
Ira PORTER died 21 Apr.1873.
The marriage record ( 30 July 1873 ) for James K.P.STURM lists his wife as Mrs. Amelia E. PORTER. Census records indicate she was born ca 1849 IL.
Amelia & James STURM were parents of 3 sons:
Marvin STURM b. ca 1875
James Monroe STURM b. ca 1876
Earnest Walter STURM b. 1877
Amelia & Ira may have been parents of
Sarah PORTER b. ca 1868
Hannah PORTER b. ca 1869
& Annias PORTER b. ca 1873.
On the 1880 census, Amelia E. STURM , Annias PORTER, James M., Marvis & Earnest STURM are at the county poor farm.James K.P.STURM is back home with his mother Sarah, the widow of Simon STURM.
Amelia Ellen PAYNE was the daughter of Sylva PATCH and unknown PAYNE.Amelia was the stepdaughter of Israel THURSTON.On the 1850 census for Stark co., Amelia E. lived with her grandfather Isaac PATCH and in 1860 she lived with her uncle Jeremiah PATCH.
The death record for Amelia's son Marvin STURM gives his mother's maiden name as "Ellen THURSTON"
My grandfather Ernest Walter was taken from the poor farm by the George GRANT family.Ernest took the GRANT name, thus my maiden name was GRANT.
