What I've come up with since going to Clayton and putting together the census and little bit else I found now believe that John Stubbs is the father of Lewis Taylor Stubbs of Montgomery Co. AL.As you know the 1850 Montgomery Co. AL census shows John Stubbs was born in SC.The 1840 Pike Co. AL census lists John Stubbs and Lewis Stubbs, his brother. John is 50-60 yrs old and family is obviously his first family and first wife is still living. So he married Edie sometime after 1840. There were 3 boys and 2 girls in the household. They are also found on the 1830 Marlboro Co. SC.
A Lewis Stubbs and wife Julia, dau Caroline are on the 1860 Pike Co. AL census. Think if was Connie Schiller who said this is Lewis Taylor Stubbs and 1st wife. There was a Lewis F. Stubbs who died in Montgomery Co. Al in 1928.Where does he fit in? At any rate, from what others. It gets a bit confusing from there on because from the various published biographical Stubbs books show Lewis and John as younger brothers of my William Stubbs, all sons of John Stubbs of "Cheraws" Marlboro Co. SC.But they show that John died before 1800.I've found other errors in some of the older books, only because more information has become now from information that descendants have given.I'd like to see more on the John and Lewis Stubbs of Alabama but believe they are the Marlboro brothers and brothers of my William Stubbs.
