Hi Val,
I am researching the Scanlan family of Garraunboy, Killaloe & East Clare and at the moment I am trying to establish the connection between the Stuarts and the Scanlans. In the 1940 obituary of Fr. Michael Scanlan, P.P. Scariff it states that he was a cousin of the late Ven. Archdeacon Charles Stuart, P.P., V.G., Roscrea who I believe may have come from the Ogonnelloe area.
There may also possibly be a Hogan connection as the Scanlans were connected to the Hogans of Coolreagh More, Bodyke and they were all very near each other there in Killaloe - Ogonnelloe - Scariff - Bodyke. Recently I came into possession of a Hogan family tree and there are three Scanlan connections on the tree and the earliest Scanlan connection Anne Scanlan of Garraunboy, was married to Denis Hogan of Ballycuggaran in between Killaloe and Ogonnelloe!
Any bit of Stuart info. greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Orla
